It’s not a sin to be tempted but it’s a sin to give in to temptation. Jesus was tempted & so were His disciples. I too encounter temptation, as long as you’re on earth, temptation is inevitable. Ever since sin entered into this world, there has been war in every human between the spirit and the flesh. Dealing with temptation can be very difficult because choosing to say “no” to things that use to seem natural, comforting, and even pleasurable may now seem painful, contrary, confusing and tempting. It may make you question what you’ve signed up for. Temptation is not a sin. It’s how you respond to it that matters. We have all been tempted to do things outside of God’s will and many of us face these temptations each and every day, when we fall, we often feel the guilt and shame from the sin that we committed. But God is always available to protect us against stumbling and even if we fall, He will help us stand again. The silver lining of temptation is that it reminds you of just how much you need Jesus to keep rescuing you from yourself and from the evil around you. So Here are;

- WHO IS THE SOURCE OF TEMPTATION?
James 1:13-15, “When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.”
1 John 2:16, “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
- SATAN IS CALLED THE TEMPTER
Matthew 4:1, “Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when the tempter came to him, he said, if thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.”
Mark 1:13, “And He was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.”
1 Cor 7:5, “Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.”
1 Chron 21:1, “Satan rose up against Israel and caused David to take a census of the people of Israel.”
1 Thess 3:5, “That is why, when I could bear it no longer, I sent Timothy to find out whether your faith was still strong. I was afraid that the tempter had gotten the best of you and that our work had been useless.”
- HOW TEMPTATION WORKS
1. STEP ONE, SATAN IDENTIFIES A DESIRE INSIDE OF YOU.
Matt 5: 19, “For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, eagerness for lustful pleasure, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within.”
Gen 3:1-2, “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”
Matt 4:2-3, “After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
2. STEP TWO IS DOUBT.
Matt 4:5-6, “Then the devil took Him to the holy city and set Him on the pinnacle of the temple. If You are the Son of God, he said, “throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will command His angels concerning You, and they will lift You up in their hands, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.”
Gen 3:4, “Then the serpent said to the woman “You Will not die”
“Satan tries to get you to doubt what God has said about the sin: Is it really wrong? Did God really say not to do it?”
“Watch out! Don’t let evil thoughts or doubts make any of you turn from the living God.”
3. STEP THREE IS DECEPTION.
Gen 3:5, “For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
Matt 4:9, “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
Satan is incapable of telling the truth and is called “the Father of lies.” Anything he tells you will be untrue or just half-true.
4. STEP FOUR IS DISOBEDIENCE.
You finally act on the thought you’ve been toying with in your mind
Gen 3:6, “The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.”
“We are tempted when we are drawn away and trapped by our own evil desires. Then our evil desires conceive and give birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. Do not be deceived, my dear friends!”
- WHY DO GOD ALLOW TEMPTATION?
James 1:12 (LB), “Happy is the man who doesn’t give in and do wrong when he is tempted, for afterwards he will get as his reward the crown of life that God has promised those who love him.”
James 1:3, “Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
Matthew 26:41, “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
James 1:2-3, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you encounter trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
The purpose of temptation, if overcome, is to “perfect” us, or to make us complete!
- MINDSET FOR OVERCOMING TEMPTATION
1 Corinthians 10:13 (NLT), “Remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can’t stand up against it. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it.”
2 Peter 2:9, “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the Day of Judgment to be punished.”
James 1:2, “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations”
Hebrews 4:15-16 “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
1 John 4:4, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
Daniel 11:32, “And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.”
1 Timothy 6:11-12, “But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.”
James 4:7, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Keynote: Temptations keep us dependent upon God. Just as the roots grow stronger when wind blows against a tree, so every time you stand up to a temptation you become more like Jesus. When you stumble; which occurs sometimes, it is not fatal. Instead of giving in or giving up, look up to God, expect Him to help you, and remember the reward that is waiting for you:
‘When people are tempted and still continue strong, they should be happy. After then have proved their faith, God will reward them with life forever
PRAYER
“DEAR GOD,
You know the temptations that we face daily. Your Word promises that we will not be tempted beyond what we can bear. I ask for your strength to stand up under the temptation whenever we encounter it. Your Word also says you will provide a way out of the temptation. Please give us the wisdom to walk away when we are tempted, and the clarity to see the way out that you will provide. Thank you God, you alone is our faithful deliverer and our present help in my time of need.”
Amen!!!!!
